The Bathroom

One of the most popular rooms in the house to renovate is the bathroom. This may seem odd since it is a room that we really don't spend a lot of time in. That being said a nice looking clean bathroom can really make the whole house look more attractive and help to increase its value.

The first thing that you are going to have to keep in mind if you are going to redecorate the bathroom is that despite its small size it will likely be the most complicated room to renovate, it is also the second most expensive after the kitchen. This is mainly because of all of the plumbing involved. If you are going to do a complete renovation of the bathroom you are going to need quite a few trades people involved. Therefore it is important to think about whether the cost is going to be worth it. Improving the bathroom can really increase the value of your home but it comes at a pretty high price.

The most import features in the bathroom are the functional ones. That would be the toilet, the bathtub and the sink. There are a huge variety of choices available here so you can choose almost anything that you want. A couple of things to keep in mind however is that you are going to want to make sure that they all go together. Your bathroom will look pretty silly if you have a brand new ultramodern bathtub sitting next to a thirty year old toilet. The other big thing that you should keep in mind is functionality; these are items that you are going to use so they do have to work well. If you are going to change the toilet or the tub you will almost certainly have to retile the bathroom so keep that in mind as well.

One of the best ways to change the look of your bathroom is to retile it. This can give you a completely different look but it is a major job. In order to retile the whole bathroom you are looking at a few days worth of work at a minimum. This is another one of those cases where you may decide to just go ahead and change everything in the bathroom. You will have to remove the cabinets and the toilet to tile anyway so if you are thinking about changing them this would be the time to do it.

The easiest things to change in the bathroom are the faucets and the lighting. These can actually have a pretty dramatic effect on the look of the bathroom and they can be changed for a fairly low price. However in most cases if you are going to go to the trouble of renovating your bathroom you might as well go the whole way and make the major changes.
